In the PALS Course, you will reinforce and enhance your skills in the treatment of pediatric arrest and periarrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated pediatric emergencies. These simulations are designed to reinforce the important cencepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. This course is targeted toward healthcare providers who deliver advanced life support during the initial phase of a pediatric emergency, either in or out of the hospital.
PALS providers typically include physicians, nurses, NPs, PAs, paramedics/advanced EMS providers, as well as others who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies. Students will be tested for competency in the following areas:
Infant & Child Basic Life Support
Approach & Management 2 Cases using teamwork
- 1 Cardiac Case
- 1 Respiratory or 1 Shock Case
The cost of the PALS course is $125.00 for recertification; and $175.00 for Initial class; this price does not include the student book.
Prerequisites
- Performing infant and child BLS skills
- Reading and interpreting ECG rhythm strips
- Knowing basic resuscitation pharmacology
- Precourse Self-Assessment is strongly advised but not required
